More About Drink Afrikaans: Afrikaans is a wine born from conversation. Created to celebrate a language rich in warmth, rhythm, and poetry, it’s made to be shared rather than explained. Each bottle invites connection—around a table, over a meal, between friends. Approachable, expressive, and quietly thoughtful, Afrikaans is as much about stories as it is about wine.

Simply known as Afrikaans, this wine began as a personal idea from Jean Engelbrecht: to celebrate a language through something meant to be shared. Afrikaans is one of South Africa’s twelve official languages, rich with warmth, rhythm, humour, and poetry. Through wine, the brand honours that heritage while inviting everyone in—because this is not a language, or a wine, meant to stand apart.

At its heart, Afrikaans is about connection. About gathering around a table, pouring a glass, and letting conversation unfold. That spirit lives in every bottle. Each vintage is released as a new Volume, and on the back label you’ll find a poem titled My Taal—My Language. Each year, a different South African artist lends their voice, turning every release into a small celebration of words, creativity, and shared stories.
